HIST 120: Course Guide: Find Primary Sources

This guide is intended to help students in HIST 120 find resources for their research.

Newspaper Coverage

Primary sources are spread across a large number of databases and websites, often focused on specific places and time periods. Before searching, consider:

  • what time period and geography applies to your topic and choose a database or website that covers that time and place
  • what the names of the major newspapers were at that time
  • if there are any key dates to research so that you can scan through newspapers that don't handle keyword searching
